Habit Elimination Program This program is designed to help your child quit negative oral habits such as thumb/finger sucking, nail biting and or lip licking in a positive and fun manner without the use of punitive habit appliances. This program builds confidence and self esteem in your child as they watch themselves give up addicting habits. We pride ourselves on a high success rate, typically within four weeks. Therapy may begin as young as four years of age. Myofunctional Therapy Program Myofunctional Therapy invloves the patient exercising the orofacial complex throughout the day to improve tone and strength. Without improved tone and strength we cannot train the muscles were to rest and how to function correctly. Therapy takes place over several months to help eliminate tongue thrust or low tongue posture, lip incompetence (mouth breathing) and/or incorrect chewing and swallowing habits. The length of therapy is dependent on the severity of the OMD and the compliance of the patient throughout the program. myofunctional Therapy can begin as early as six years of age. Noxious habits such as finger or thumb sucking, nail biting and/or lip licking must be eliminated prior to initiating the myofunctional Therapy Program. Pre and Post Frenectomy Therapy We recommend pre and post therapy sessions for those undergoing frenectomy surgery. To ensure the best surgical outcome and to prevent tissue from reattaching after the frenectomy, we recommend pre and post surgical myofunctional therapy. This will allow the muscles to function and rest correctly as well as prevent the tissues from returning to their initial state. It is recommended to stretch the tissues for three to four weeks after surgery to ensure success. Once the tissue has fully healed and depending on the severity of the surgery, we recommend myofunctional therapy to train the tongue and lips where to rest and how to function correctly. Our mission at Alberta Myofunctional Therapy is to provide quality care to all patients in a motivational, sincere, and professional manner. We are dedicated to fostering a positive, fun, friendly and educational environment. We offer Skype appointments! Contact us today for more information. |
